Three weeks ago, for reasons I’ve yet to unravel, I had Subway for lunch five weekdays in a row. Why I did this or how I did this I do not know, though I feel dirty talking about it, like I should dive into a confessional and divulge my darkest toppings. Cheese. Lettuce. Green peppers. Giardiniera, a signature Subway condiment whose ingredients will never be accurately enumerated.
My problem, in a word, is variety. A desperate need for it. That’s the buzzword for this month. Evanston is the purported dining capital of the Norshore, and I’d be amiss to ignore this reality. By the way, I had a meatball sandwich at Subway today. Couldn’t stay far enough away, especially since it was the special. The special! That means it’s never going to happen again, at least until next Tuesday.
So, the rest of the month. Variety. And more meaningful conversation. Let’s talk tomorrow.
