If I set all of my bills on fire, then they won’t really exist anymore, right? Or perhaps you can simply pay them off for me, gentle reader.

As luck would not have it, gentle reader, the past few days have tested my patience to no end. I returned to Chicago on Wednesday and booked it to my roomy studio on Main Street. Right about here is where all the good news ends.

There was a little cleaning to be done, which was expected and accomplished quickly, but then some blinds decided to fall onto my head (twice), the power insisted on sputtering out FOUR times, and more than half of my windows refused–and still refuse–to open. After descending into the dank, dark basement to reset my circuit breakers for a FOURTH time, I think I snapped. I’ve caught myself muttering to myself a few times, and the English language simply does not allow for such a thing to be articulated easily. Is your beloved CEO close to retiring? Or is my mental state actually improving?

The matchless Cicero wheeled windily into Evanston today, bringing with him rhetoric and a bit of nostalgia. We downed lots of Rigatoni D., Maggiano’s signature pasta dish sanctioned by Secondhand Rants, and then we were off to a late showing of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Sean Connery hams it up as the rough-and-tumble Quatermain; that alone is worth a matinee showing. And the rest of the movie? It’s a bit cheesy at times, of course, but both the special effects and the hodgepodge of literary characters make for tasty eye candy.

The merriment promises to spill over into tomorrow night, when Cicero, his beloved Egg, Harpsichordist Moy-traordinaire, and I will celebrate Egg’s birthday at Bob Chinn’s.

With the exception of the Harpsichordist, the gathering will probably not be extraordinary–heck, it probably won’t even approach League status–but what is noteworthy is the previous paragraph. That’s right, gentle reader, read that again. It’s public now, and you know very well that I’m not talking about my beloved company. Congratulations to the two of you!

I’d also like to take this moment to thank my Public Service Announcement Department. How many Departments do I have in all? You really want to know? Over my cold, lifeless, calculating, friendly CEO body, I say.
